TLH019 - Riding to Tallahassee

Tallahassee sees it's share of travelers. Between cars and trucks on I-10, the busy Greyhound station and the regional airport, we see a lot of folk passing through. In this edition of the TallyCast, we meet the Pink Panther, Lucinda Chandler, a traveler who passed through our city this past spring on a bicycle. What's special about Lucinda is that her trip started in San Diego California and ended in St. Augustine, Florida.

Lucinda's trip blog.

Not many people know that the Southern Tier transcontinental bicycle route passes right through our city. During the spring and fall, we have a lot of bicycle travelers coming through town. The official route (from the Adventure Cycling Association) comes into Tallahassee from Quincy on US-90, shifts to Jackson Bluff and Gaines Street and then turns south to meet the St. Marks bike trail. The route turns off the St. Marks trail south of town and continues east to Monticello.

Lucinda made her trip on a rather unusual bike. She rode a hot pink recumbent tricycle. Not many people know that right here in Tallahassee, a local company, Organic Engines, makes similar bikes. The bike that Lucinda rode was from another Florida bicycle manufacture, CatTrike.

Music on todays podcast comes from one of my past hometowns, Champaign Illinois. The band is "somethingcool" featuring Sam Fisher. The tune is "Bicycle" and comes to us through GarageBand.com.
