TallyCast #2 - Manatee on the Wakulla

The holiday weekend is behind us. Todays podcast takes us to the Wakulla River. Starting at Wakulla Springs the river winds 4 miles down to lower bridge where you can rent a canoe or kayak. Canoes and Kayaks can also be rented at The Wilderness Way, Bluewater Sports and the Canoe Shop.

Past the lower bridge, the Wakulla get's wider and much less developed. On this part of the river, there is much more boat traffic. Another 4 or so miles down the river, you get to the Town of St. Marks. There are several places where you can take out your canoe or kayak including a city park on the Wakulla river or a boat ramp on the St. Marks River.

We saw a lot of wildlife on the river including birds, alligators and had several close encounters with the amazing Manatee who live in the river. These gentle giants are endangered due to the loss of habitat and their interaction with boat propellers.

The manatee were amazing to see and interact with. While we try to focus on local music on this podcast, today we're featuring a wonderful song written by Greg Artzner and Terry Leonino who write and perform together under the name "Magpie". Greg and Terry kindly gave us permission to include their tune, Hugh the Manatee, on todays podcast.

If you have a tune you've written and want played on the TallyCast, drop us an email.
