TLH009 - Old King Coal

Welcome to Hurricane Katrina. Already a killer, the storm is passing over South Florida as this podcast is being prepared and may be heading in our direction.

It's important to be prepared and to have a personal disaster plan.

Saturday and Sunday, at the North Florida Fairground, it's the Big Bend Bird Fair. {Tallymarket Listing}

The Tallahassee WWII Historical Society is meeting on Saturday at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held at the Lakewood Baptist Church. {Tallymarket Listing}

It was coal night once again this past Wednesday at the Tallahassee City Commission. Commission member Debbie Lightsey is the point person for coal plant. Commissioner Alan Katz is the lone commissioner opposed to the plan.

TLH008A-Unreal Reality again.

This is a repost of #8. For some reason, the audio file didn't get distributed with the feed.

Sorry for the delay in posting #8. I've been crazy busy.

Congrats to local boys made good, The Soular System, who recently played as the opening act for road bands, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Chicago. Their next in-town gig is at the Warehouse on August 26th.

Check out Downhill Battle, a group that is working for fairness in music licensing.

The Tallahassee Film Society is screening Gunner Palace Saturday at the Amtrak Station on Railroad Ave. The show starts at 5PM.

The Florida Division of Juvenile Justice is holding a book drive to stock libraries in the youth detention centers around Florida. This is a very good cause and I encourage folks to bring their books to one of the drop off centers. It's a small, but very significant investment in Florida's children. You can donate a book at The Cracker Barrel, Federal Express/Kinko's, Premier Health & Fitness Center, The Tallahassee State Bank, The Florida Commerce Credit Union and Publix locations throughout Leon County. For more information on the book drive, contact the DJJ at 488-1850.
